Sleek Tata Nanos to Replace Rasping Autos

Gentlemanly behavior by auto drivers in India is something you can only dream about. I bet there’s hardly anyone who’s not had a heated argument with them. It’s heartening that authorities are not turning a deaf ear to continuous outcry from the public in this regard. The government of Maharashtra has decided to give auto drivers lessons in etiquette. And guess what’s going to happen in Bangalore? Tata Nanos may soon replace abrasive autorickshaws, if the BMTC has its way.

In an attempt to phase out autorickshaws gradually and provide Bangaloreans with a cheap but comfortable local transport mechanism, the transport department is planning to buy10,000 Tata Nanos as city taxies.

Karnataka transport minister R Ashoka  said the government is thinking of purchasing 10,000 Nano cars and renting them out in Bangalore. The profit will be shared between the government and the driver, at 40:60 ratio respectively. The government may invest for the cars from its own resources or take loans.”

Tata Nano vs Bajaj Autorickshaws

  • Both Nano and autorickshaw cost Rs 1.3 lakh on the road.
  • While the Nano offers a mileage of 20 kmpl, an autorickshaw returns 25 kmpl.
  • Tata Nano emits 101 grams of CO2 per kilometer while 2-stroke and 4-stroke auto-rickshaws emit 87.2 and 85.6 CO2/km respectively. LPG autos’ figures are even less. So autorickshaws are evidently more eco-friendly.

Do you think the move by BMTC is constructive? Or will it blemish the identity of the people’s car? Discuss your views below. You can also connect with me on Twitter.

The figures on the alleged ‘green’ness of rickshaws are difficult to buy. One just needs to look at the trail left behind a racketing one. Was the result obtained with the rickshaw engine idling, and after unloading all passengers? Or was the new, 4-stroke, Nano engine made to run on kerosene-tinctured fuel?

Seriously, it is the best thing to happen for passenger safety and convenience. And BMTC is very constructive, unlike many other authorities in Maharashtra where they took the retrograde step of ‘permitting’ diesel-run, six-seater, monsters. People will gladly prefer the Nano any day at a 10 % higher cost – given an option! Recall the preference people gave to rear-engine ricks, then 4-stroke ricks, both costlier version than the then prevailing ones. Let rickshaw prices drop by 30 %, Nano is still on!!! Even when one forgets, for a moment, the safety issues, the convenience factor, the noise pollution, and also the atrocities of the near-extinct 2-stroke ricks which have dared to feature in the comparison. It is nobody’s case, though, that taxi drivers are (or Nano drivers, for that matter, would be) a better-behaved lot.

  2. Arpan says:

The move is certainly a good one. 1 critical fact is that an autorickshaw is also less stable due to 3 wheels and more prone to accidents. Perhaps technological tweaking can make the nano run on LPG too. Also, Tata Motors was concerned with giving the Nano a higher maximum speed and pick up, and that’s why the mileage and the CO2 emissions suffered. It should be possible to revamp the engine such that the maximum speed can be reduced to around 70-80 kmph (currently, its 105 kmph) and thus increase mileage and reduce CO2 emission…

  4. Prashanth says:

tata vehicle are meant to be taxis….. no great expectation…. it was tata sumo then indica and now nano

  5. myron g says:

do you want india to progress or not. i think it is a very wise disicon that the athorites are taking keep it up.

  6. hamed says:

    LOL.!!!!!!!!!!!
knw we have to shout out NANO nano …………

  7. sai says:

The move is certainly a bad news for Bangalore people. This may increase in Traffic and parking space problems.

  8. Narasimha says:

its good idea to replace auto’s for comfort., but regarding rhe statements stating that the arrogent behaviour may changes its not so., it will be the same no one can change auto drivers attitude., first of all they should be thought how to react with people., these autodrivers react as if they are doing favours by providing there services., these auto drivers dont have road sense at all they drive as if they are the only drivers driving on the roads., so we should think wat can be done to smooth understanding between passenger and autodrivers

  9. larsen.s says:

yeh its agood idea from tata nana side but as for customer will feel much comfortable to travel in a nano than in auto.if the hiking price will b same as auto.

  10. Karthic says:

Public will Suffer. Because of Nano’s Low Mileage and High Luxury compared to Autos, surely they will charge more than Autowalla.

So at the end of the day, On Overview India would look as Improved Nation at the Cost of Her Citizens sufferings.

  11. CHIDAMBARAM says:

Its high time somebody teaches these auto drivers who take the passengers for a ride. Mr. Ashoka’s move is most welcome. Driving the country in fastforward mode. Wish him all success in Nano project.

  12. gaurav Tyagi says:

This is Called the Futuristic Government but lets see how many days/ Years they will take to make this out. “BEST OF LUCK” for Bangloreans & their Govt.

  13. Robijyoti Bhattacharya says:

Nano is stylish and cheap, but this new comer shouldn’t play as an alternative to age-old autorickshaw. Thinking an Indian city without autorickshaw is something like -missing the core sense of real India. Moreover autos are eco friendly and we have seen cases where Nanos didn’t do well. So, I think autos should exists. In practice, govt should put steps to teach and train the autowalas so that they become real gentlemen.

  14. thaimei says:

That’s a good thinking and must implement it into action. Nano taxi-ing in all the metro cities is the right step for public conveyance.

  15. satheesh says:

we will see is it good or not ut good in kerala roads

  16. Rajesh says:

NANO and Auto both have their different values. I can’t imagine suburban Mumbai without Auto. Along with Local Trains, Auto is also the lifeline of all Mumbaikars.Nano can’t take place of Autos. If they replace the Auto then we have to pay more for our travelling which is not recommendable.

  17. namrata says:

replacing auto rickshaws wouldnt be a good idea because localities owning the nano would find it a bit weird nd wouldnt find a difference betwn their car nd d auto rickshaw..
i dont think autorickshaws should be replaced…

  18. kunal says:

no doubt this would tarnish the ego of the “first time car owners” but they will get used to it once it is proved that it is a logical and practical decision. after all someone has to set an example, so why not Bangalore, the IT city? its the best place to start a new trend which will be followed by others all over India, or at least inspire politicians and policymakers to do something innovative and creative to win the public vote!

  19. mona says:

hey… that’s really good idea… this should start in Mumbai as well as there is a big problem with auto wallahs here… people surely wont mind to pay more also…for better facilities…

  20. Mariam says:

Itz certianly a very good move. We are suffering here from last 8 years from the hands of autorikshaws. Hope they will be out soon and we will get some relief.

Nano is a gud option. All the best TATA!

  21. Dilip says:

I think it is very good decision. All metro cities should have Tata Nano cars.

  22. gururaj says:

good futuristic planning but cost effectiveness needs to be checked

  23. jeevanandam says:

it is a right decision we willavoid noise and pollution.itis safety one better than auto. we will welcone nano auto in future days.

  24. Pinky says:

As futuristic as BMTC’s move may seem…we also have to consider the effect it has on the environment…With the focus of today being eco friendliness, movin forward with nanos as a local mode of transport will only reflect as a contribution to damaging the environment…. I appreciate the authorities lending a ear to this issue…but i feel they should consider this step in terms of it benefiting not only the people but also its impact on the environment..

  25. rohit says:

Such stupid thought that attitude of autowallas will change if they are made to drive a four-wheeler can only be expected from our bureaucracy or leaders and they should keep in mind that, there is hardly any difference in the attitudes of autowallas and taxiwalls and private bus drivers so its clear that, increasing wheels don’t change personalities and if this is the case than railway engine drivers should be sent as Indian ambassadors to other countries.

How can our leaders think on so stupid parameters?

  26. parmod says:

This statements should be see to Mamta Banergy in is an axcelent idea well done Karnataka Gove.

  27. shankar says:

Nano’s are certainly welcome on indian roads replacing auto’s.But how will the auto wallahs react to this. Will they go on strike as many people depend on autos for their livelihood.Cant predict the future but can certainly see some sort of resistance. What will the taxi wallahs do,will the nano compete with the taxis or autos???????

  28. Chandu says:

Thats the way to go! Nano’s replacing auto’s is a welcome move. I hope the govt acts on it quickly before the auto unions buldoze the idea.
    – I am in for anything that will throw the auto guys out of bangalore roads. Autos are a necessary evil that we have been tolerating. If there is different option we should be looking at it.

  29. mpmonga says:

DEAR SIR THIS SHOULD HAVE BEEN DONE MUCH EARLIER.

ANY WAY BETTER LATE THAN NEVER.

    REGARDS——mp monga

  30. Pritish says:

    Good Decision…………..very good decision………

the NANO cars will provide us a luxurious transport as well as it will improve Brand India worldwide……

n about eco-friendly autos, we know they run more on kerosine than on diesel……..the avg emission given above was for diesel, for kerosin its double to that of NANO……….

welcome NANO………..n lets hope all other states too implement this decision soon………..

  31. KRIZNA says:

ITS VERY BAD THAT BUYING 10000.00 NANO CARS FOR RENTAL BY GOVT. BECAUSE DAILY LABORS LIKE AUTO RICKSHAW DRIVERS WILL SUFFER IN THEIR BUSINESS EVEN STILL THE GOVT NEVER SEE THEM FOR THEIR LIVES AND FINANCIAL IMPROVEMENT. BECAUSE ALL AUTO RICKSHAWS DRIVERS ARE NOT WEALTH OTHERWISE THEY CAN PROVIDE ONE NANO CAR THOSE WHO HAVING AUTO RICKSHAW TO BARE IN THIS TRANSACTION.

  32. Jayanta Chakravorty says:

Welcome to the Grand Decision taken by Karnataka Government.Polution could be controled by LPG version NANO.I personally think this fuel conversion is not a very difficult task. Moreover there are so many ways to control polution.Regarding economy of fuel consumption could be easily compared with comfortability of passenger.Nano’s are more comfortable than Auto. Since Nano has four wheel and gap between wheels are more hence frequent accident could be avoided which is more in case of Auto.

  33. Saurav Rout says:

By this move b’lore roads may look good, but b’lore environment will go rash. So BMTC have to think twice before launching this project.

  34. Rathina says:

The Nanos will look like Autos in a couple of years as dirty and as disgusting. Instead of teaching manners teach them to look after what they have and give them a sense of hygene. Autos can be well kept and clean.Add doors and maybe an Ac. Repaint them and they will look good.

  35. Am says:

I would recommend placing an order for lesser vehicles
and let it be for the new 4 seater REVA electric car
instead. No fuel, no pollution – overall a better bet

  36. prakash says:

Good job, all the best to the karnataka govt. JAI HO

  37. […] This post was mentioned on Twitter by Kunal Bilakhia, Yahoo India News. Yahoo India News said: Sleek Tata Nanos to Replace Rasping Autos http://tinyurl.com/38ulreb […]

  38. Sudhir says:

I think Govt should not be in hurry to implement this. It will not serve the real purpose of change. It Govt. is so serious about changing the urban transport it can work with Tatas for electric nano and use its own infrastructure and also Metro to support difficulties of electric transport. I think it will earn them good laurels as well as autowalas will not object them as I becomes different category of transport

  39. Nabajyoti says:

When the Nano was launched, evryone speculated that it will replace the autorickshaws in future and that is coming true. After B’lore other India cities are likely to follow suit. Well, it is going to be far more comfy and safe compared to autos but autos will always have an advantage in clogged Indian roads in small towns. But the beahviour aspect of the operators is likely to remain same as the auto drivers are likely to upgrade to Nanos ( thanks to easy finance, EMI for Nano will not be more than INR 2500 per month), we will face the same lot of hooligans in a Nano’s driving seat or we may find some Tata “ACE” or “MAGIC” veterans who are no less than auto drivers so far as road manners are concerned. I heard that Tata is working on a diesel Nano, but from environmental perspective, a CNG or LPG Nano will be better choice from commercial application. Will Tata take a note on it?

  40. Kartikay says:

This is a great thing! I’m sure Tata Nanos are safer than autos.

  41. Jaggi Kal says:

    What is this?
It’s the shear case of stupidity by our law makers.
There is no relation between number of tyres in vehicle to drivers attitude. Auto and taxi drivers are *** holes and they will remain like this. In fact govt will destroy the image of Nano by running them as taxi. Nano is pride of india. Because of this car India is on the map of automobile world. Someone should pass this message to our dear politicians that they are not doing anything good in it.

  42. Kalyan says:

Great idea. The West Bengal government should also try to emulate and replace the autos which are nothing but a menace on the road with rogue drivers. Nano will be a comfortable mode of hired transport where the drivers will not me as menacing as the ill mannered and ill behaved auto drivers even if they try to be because the car will keep them in control!Even the system of Rs.10 per kilometer AC cab scheme followed in Hyderabad can also be tried with AC Nanos in Calcutta as well.

  43. Babu Reddy says:

What about current Autos. Will be removed from Roads are simultaneously AUTO also will be there, if this is the case it will not work out because traffic will increase public will be suffer.

Remove Autos and replace new Nanos this will work

  44. VIJESH says:

Tata nanos should be given permission only in certain areas like mahals, main railway station and airport where 3 or 4 people can travel while in auto 3 can only travell. In those places this vehicle will be benified.

  45. Jawahar.P.Sekhar says:

Bangalore Minister’s idea is not bad. There can be a minor dis advantage. The general public will feel a bit shy to buy Nano car for them since Bangalore roads willbe flooded with Nano Taxis.

  46. S.C. Agarwal says:

Govt. should not involve itself in any business with drivers. It will only loose all the money. Nanos can be introduced and can co-exist with autos as more persons can sit and meter rate can be higher than that of autos. This will take care of pollution aspect also as pollution per traveler will be almost same as with autos.

  47. Ashutosh says:

it can not be a good move. As tata nano is a public car and for this India has regained its name in automobile industry. so it will be a shame for the people car and as u know auto drivers can never be changed . so its better to recheck this idea . even they can make meter a must in autos …and of course making environment clean is more important.

  48. Kama says:

Since Nano is not being purchased by people. Govt will purchase 10,000 Nanos and help POOR Tatas (garib aadmi). This is how Tata-Ambani-Birla are surviving in this country. This is also called portectionism. But if you ask Manmohan singh or his chamcha montek singh – they will give u some other definition of protectionism. Of course CM/PM etc will get mloney as so called party-fund.

  49. Raj says:

Its proven that the cost due to mileage and pollution is high when compare to auto. If nano pollutes less than auto means you can go for nano. Otherwise leave it

  50. NO NO NO NO Never this not the time of again adding a new thing expensive already v all r in great delima of high price rising of a market, bring nana on the place of auto’s sounds gud but practically its againg a burdon on a pockets,3 REASONS–if its changed then definetly FARE WILL HIKE ON THE NAME OF LUXARY N FOUR WHEEL DRIVE,THEN ATTITUDE OF DRIVERS REMAIN SAME OR MAY BE HIGHER,AND WHAT ABOUT THE AUTORIKS DRIVERS LIVELIHOODS CONDITIONS,SO MANY RIK DRIVERS THEY DRIVE ON A DAILY RENT BASIS…THINK OF THAT ALSO..AND IT CREATS STIKES MAKE PARTS OF PUBLIC MENTALITIES…WRONG THINKING TO BRING NANO TO COMPETE WITH AUTOS,NANO HAS NOT MADE FOR SUCH THINGS ITS A PRIDE OF OUR COUNTRY,,SO LETS RIDE WITH A PRIDE OK..

  51. harish says:

Well as far as the money and the facilities concerned its cool to make such a move and customers can also have a mo comfortable ride in a vehicle which has mo gud facilities and also which costs the same as an autorikshaw. But as far as kmpl and co2 is concerned BMTC should think about it coz if somthin good has come out and if it hurts or affects the environment we should not go for it. if we go the days of selling oxygen is no far. Instead the govt could bring down the prices of ford fiesta to the rates of nano then it might urge a competition between the two company and a. monopoly could be averted b. they could introduce ford fiesta as taxi’s and replace auto rikshaw as already there are taxis which are higher rates than nano are existing in mumbai delhi gujarat. C. U.S. had already introduced cars like ford fiesta as a yellow taxi. so that my perception is it could also raise not only standards but also the lower rates competition could bring lot of consumers and the dream of humans “evry1 owns a car” might near

  52. punit haran says:

This is a superv idea of replacing auto rickshaw with nano cars, actually they should done it as soon as possible and this should happen in all over india

  53. Ramesh says:

A good move in principle as Nano’s will be a lot safer and provide all weather protection. I hope they will upgrade the driving skills of the drivers for a small fee or free even to ensure more responsible road manners amongst the drivers. Of course, most auto drivers are not reckless maniacs and from their perspective life is more harsh on them so it is only natural that some of them will throw back that harshness at society. It is a good start for us to treat them with due respect and insist that they too return that kindness and respect (unless one is dealing with the occasional ruffian auto driver).

The Nano being such an iconic design and a first car for many buyers needs to be positioned/ appear different from the taxi nanos – Tata i feel could differenciate the Taxi nanos by giving them unpaunted bumpers (easier to repair), Simple round headlights and tail lights in a plastic casing as seen on the Indicab. It might even be a good Idea to paint them in a modern version of the taxi 2 tone paint scheme to differentiate them from privately owned Nanos…

Overall a very good move I’d say – It will be a relief to see the autos largely dissappear from our city roads…

  54. s.bala subrahmanyam says:

This move is good but it will increase traffic problems. And NANO purchase by public will have a second thought.

  55. Subhra Dhar says:

It’s shameful thing that govt constantly trying to back up the companies who are major profit maker and do nothings for the small sector industries.

  56. adipoly says:

Why do some believe that by replacing AUTOs with NANO, the passenger will get some respect and can expect good behavior from the drivers? If I am correct earlier when Autos where introduced, the drivers were well behaved compared to the then cycle rickshaws etc.. If we need to have a well behaved drivers, then all these rickshaws or taxis should be governed by some company and the drivers will work for salary ( like the green taxis, Fastrack etc.). Also these Auto drivers are never questioned by our Traffic police.( Are they too part of this rowdy racket?) More over to get respect or to expect good behavior, atleast from the taxi or rickshaw drivers, we should not be India. We Indians are hypocrites, and we never ever respect ourself and boast on our culture, which is a thing of past, caz now our culture is not much different than many of the european countries, Live only for urself. 🙂

  57. Netizen says:

I strongly disagree with this move. Lesser mileage means more fuel,
more money & more damages to environment. A smart autorickshaw wala will never rent a Nano and A smart passenger will never go for a ride in a Nano. All the facts are right in front of them, how could they even think of replacing autorickshaws with Nanos?

  58. Sriram says:

Its a very good idea to replace autorickshaws with Nanos. I think all Indian states should go in for such a scheme and phase out the outmoded autorickshaws. They are terribly noisy, polluting and even unsafe as they topple over very easily (its happened to me once).

Training of auto/taxi drivers or even bus drivers/conductors should be taken up by all states. Not just once, it should be a continuous training conducted periodically (maybe every two years or so).

  59. Sriram says:

While having Nanos is a good idea, I hope they don’t paint them a gaudy yellow. An elegant white would be fine.

  60. KESHU KARKALA says:

I feel Nano’s are more comfortable during rainy days

  61. varalakshmi says:

    fantastic.
think to improve eco friendly featutres

  62. MOHANDAS says:

Replacing an existing mode of conveyance with other modified version should be a perfect proposal in all sense.Just a closed and safe vehicle that has no eco sense is a nonsense. As day by day the roads are getting denser by vehicular trafic ,surely emission of more carbon monoxide / dioxide level is a matter of concern. If nano wants to explore the road replacing autorickshaws, let their lab think of alternate fuel or think of recycling probable emissions within the vehicle itself for some engine efficiency before it is emitted again.

  63. Srijith Ramachandran Datamatics says:

First you should stop selling Autos then the idea of Nano looks meaningful!!!

  64. Raghu Vamsi says:

Well this seems to be a great idea by the government of bangalore. So what if someone is about to drop the idea of buying it as a car. Are there not any indigo’s running as call taxi’s in the city. For years there are Ambassadors running as local taxi in each and every city. That does not mean people stop to buy these brand models. If people wanna go ahead and buy a cheap car they will do so.
More over if there is a replacement, there is this safe travel in rain and even during hot conditions. The vehicle is as compact as an auto and can enter every nook and corner of the any city in India.
I think it is a fabulous idea and every metropolitan city where there is a huge demand for public transport especially from airports, railways station and bus stations. It is definitely a profitable business for the central or state government.

  65. hitesh says:

change is for good and if its a positive deviation its always aplaused. let it happen to see the outcome.

  66. Vinod says:

Firstly, ensure that Nanos don’t catch flames on roads. Try to increase the efficiency levels and reduce the emission levels. Then, think of phasing out autos and getting in Nanos.Rather than using Nanos like autorikshawas for individuals, they could be used like a mini public transportation medium to ferry 4 passengers. This way, lot of economy can be achieved.

  67. Thendral says:

Nano become a Auto,India become a super india for Indian citizen

as well as foreigners in the world.

  68. koontoo says:

Collobrate with TATA to make CNG nano and introduce essentially in all metro and phase out autorkshaw or somthing exchange offer with new nano CNG may be encouraged by Gov agencies.

  69. Subodh Kumar says:

Tata Nano to bring in place of Bajaj Autorickshow is bettrer only if it finds economically to passanger and more or equal environment friendly. Otherwise it is neither beneficial to public nor to environment. Govt. should think over prior to phase out.

  70. y.v.subba rao. says:

it certainly is a very good move. passenger safety is more and menace of zigzag &reckless driving of three wheelers because of its maneuverability will vanish with autos.some fuel efficiency and carbon emission sacrifice is small price compared to chaotic traffic due to three wheeler menace on roads. HOPE A.P. WILL ALSO THINK ABOUT IT.

  71. siddharth jain says:

a big no to nano…its a bad idea from the bangaluru govt………..where the environment is creating such a huge pollution we cant take any more chance to damage the ecosystem….and 2nd point is mileage and cost of the vehicle is much more then autorikshaw…. petrol prices are increasing day by day ……..so one shd go against the idea…….

  72. MADAN LAL says:

A comfortable journey in nano includes a front seat too.

  73. Sandeep says:

NANOS ARE GOOD SUBSTITUTE FOR AUTOS IN BANGALORE, BUT THE QUESTION IS HOW ECONOMICAL IS THIS TO PEOPLE, WILL THE FARE BE THE SAME.OR IN THE NAME OF COMFORT THE FARES WILL BE INCREASED, AS SAID BY OTHERS THE ATTITUDE OF AUTOWALAS WONT CHANGE FOR SURE.

NANOS MIGHT LOOK GOOD ON ROADS BUT CANT SAY HOW IT WILL WORK OUT.

  74. Ajaz Dubai says:

Nano will be helpful in reducing noise pollution. The biggest difference between India & other developed country is noise pollution. In India it’s difficult to listen someone if you are on a road or roadside. I am in Dubai since 7 years & I appreciate the lower noise level here.

  75. the price of two is same.
the milage difference is 5 km/ltr and in term of money 0.44 Rs./km or 2.20 Rs./ltr.
    the difference in rate of emmission of co2 is (101-87.2)gram/km = 13.8 gram/ km. or 69 gram/litr.
in a auto 5 passanger normally go in a single trip where in this case 4 passanger could go.
Nano is not at all open like Auto, this automatically create our sense difference that auto. hence a family/couple/single may prefer it than auto but in case of Paikary Transportation it may not be so successful.

overall explaintion cover many obstacle. but by heart i suppose the scheme because those who prefer to travel in taxi can travel by nano with much more less cost.

  76. DR SANDEEP SHUKLA says:

NANO ,S CNG VERSION IS BEST OPTION TO SSUBSTITUTE AUTO .

  77. Kaisar says:

It is a great move. let’s get this symbol of 3rd world out of our view. Autos are uncomfortable, unsafe & unattractive. Wish the same move is adopted by Mumbai Municipal Corporation and progressively all municipal authorities. At least now we will be able to look out and see where we are and get read off the bumpy ride. Autos would anyway find their way out on the lines of Ambassador and Fiat cars, who never evolved with time. A great finance scheme can be devised to help auto owners. Our Indian attitude to opt for the cheapest available options and always crib to pay more for better facilities is the reason for our sorry state today. Let’s raise the benchmarks so that we shall all attempt to achieve it. All the best to BMCT.

  78. sadik says:

IT IS GOOD IDEA BUT NENO MARKET IS JUST LIKE TRANSPORT VEHICLE AND VEHICLE AUTHORITY DO PASSING & TRANSP. PASSING BETWEEN SMALL ISSUE OF THIS IDEA AND NENO HOW IT WILL RESULT DO TEXI USE …THIS IS MAIN POINT. AFTER SIX MONTH ALL DAMAGE ALL DREAMS NOT A FACTS BOT SOME IDEA IS MADE DREAMS.

  79. Rajiv says:

Not a great idea this is.. 10000 nanos replacing already existing autos, costs 10000 x 1,30,000 rupees to the government.. Just not the money it also means excessive pollution, more fuel consumption. Nano will loose its hold in market as a car n many shall deny buying nano which will b considered as auto.. This huge amount of money can be used for some other developments.. It doesnt really matter much for many people whether u travel in auto r nano..

  80. SIMA says:

Could not believe the wording in the news item above: “… to give auto drivers lessons in etiquette”; and “Tata Nanos may soon replace abrasive autorickshaws …”. “Etiquette” and “abrasive”?? The writer is cordially invited to Chennai and requested to travel ONLY in an autorick. These guys are vampires. “The Contract of Carriages Act” does not exist in Chennai. A citizen approaching almost any auto driver is reduced to a grovelling beggar, pleading with the driver, coming close to tears, and finally aubmitting to putting his/her head on the chopping block of a “public service Permit holder”. They prefer to roam the streets empty, like tourists. I visit Bengaluru from Chennai frequently, and I have always felt that our Chennai authorities and the autosharks need to go and learn lessons in Bengaluru, where the driver’s hand goes straight to the meter (doctored or otherwise) and he asks “Where to?”. Namaskars to the Bengaluru authorities and autorickshaw drivers.

  81. G.P.Rama Rao says:

In My viwe NANO IS NOTHING BUT A SEVEN SEATER AUTO.

ONLY THE BODY IS CHANGED AND IT IS DECORAED FASHINABLY.

THE MAILAGE IS LESS,POLUTION EMITEED IS MORE & COST OF TRANASPORT COST WILL INCRASE.

THEN WATS THE FUN IN REPLAEMENT.

IF WE ARE ABLE TO ACHIVE WHAT PEOPLE REQUIRE WE CAN REPLACE,BUT I DON’T THINK SO.

  82. Nanju Chary says:

Customer is happy for waht is paying on NANO when it comes to Safety/ comfort too 🙂

  83. S.Suri says:

The government has no business to get into the job of running Nano taxis, that too financed out of the tax-payer’s money. It has better things to do with public money like improving government health-care facilities, govt.run schools, roads, reliable electricity and water supply and drainage systems, which are in shambles. It must leave the task of running private transport like taxis/autos to the private sector, while retaining only the regulatory functions. LPG/CNG run four-stroke autos are a better alternative as they can negotiate the narrow streets of our towns better.

  84. Loveleen says:

It is good move .Lets see what will happen.

  85. deb says:

how much money TATA pays to Karnataka BJP govt, this should be stopped. Already transport is very costly in bangalore, it will be more costly.

  86. Meghnathrao Belathur says:

If public transport, why the small ones needed? Whether Autos or Nanos both are dangerous, highly poluting (noise & air) and adds to the traffic congestion. If the authorities plan for public transport, they need to improve the bus transit systems to work with clock work precision, with people relying on these systems. The private vehicles would then get minimalized. Proper linking to different areas, zones if catered to with a good Public transport Management should end the traffic chaos, reduce & minimize traffic accidents and also ensure that the Oil imports do reduce. This helps in reducing the trade deficit.
This requires Political will, public co-operation & a good administration team to implement a really sensible Public Transport system.
    Anybody Listening?

  87. v.a. trivedi says:

It should not be compulsory. Those who want luxuary and safety can utilise. It must be allowed. Because in India many families who can not efford day/hourly charges of four vehicle can also enjoy this way.

  88. Rajesh Danak says:

What govt. should do is change over to Nano in place of Auto in all major cities but should not be taking more than 25% of profit so as to up lift the drivers and perform better with economic betterment. It is driver who is going to slog out the whold day and earn money. Government should also work out the scheme by which after certain period say three years, driver can buy back the Nano and run it as his own vehicle. Such a scheme will attract the auto drivers for smooth change over.

  89. kutty says:

Replacing the existing battalion of auto rikshwas are not a solution.Instead wecan train the Auto Drivers in Customer handling.Good behaviour towards the commuters etc.And also the defaulting drivers are to be punished examplery so that it will act as a deterrent to othrs.

  90. Nj says:

Its a good move by BMTC…wish they do the same for the rest of so called IT cities.Me being from the NE states in India, where in a small cities like in Aizawl and Shillong Maruti 800 is the mode of basic transportation, Atleast in the metros they should try to improve the look and standard.

    Good Move though :DD

  91. it is very easy to say in all metro city people are enjoying if it will done. but the other side i mean to say company are profit like tata nano is failure in market but all metro city will absolve this than tata got profit so high .but all metro city auto driver should right to job this segment.other it will make danger happend and again stick going on.

  92. RB says:

very good move. this will ensure that we have only cars on the road along with 2 wheelers. more easy to regulate and control. cars will be forced to follow road discipline and hence can stick to lanes. no squeezing in between lanes and streamlined trafiic will be in place we are progressing at a very rapid pace though…

  93. Pardeep /babbumann says:

its is good to start nano in metro cities what govt has think what will going on rickshaw drivers heart ….I think rickshaw is bast way and very friendly..

  94. mintoo says:

Nano can’t replace auto rickshaws with these current features in terms of milage and polution.
Yes, it create some impack to local caps(taxi) in comparision with milage + polution + fare.
I feel instead of comparing with auto-richshaws we can compare with local taxi, which are old dated, less economy and poluted. Then i hope NANO is good replacement to any city.

  95. Pardeep /babbumann says:

I think nano is not much better than auto rickshaw…Has govt think what going on rickshaw drivers heart…I like auto rickshaw and nano is fail in hilly station….

  96. Thangapandian says:

Nano replace the Autorickshaw is better idea to that, but it was insulting the Nano technology it may developing the best ulternate to change the modification and new idea to invent the concept like How the Nano car will develop the tecnology?.

  97. syed Bilal jalal gaffar says:

The consent of the autorickshaw union is very much required, if not nuisance will definitely be created by automen in all senses, and we all know that the general publics property and the government property will have to face the wrath. This is most important before deciding to introduce any changes in replacing autorickshaw. This can be done phase wise, restrictions limited to busiest roads, and moreover the automen needs time to adjust to switchover to the use of nanos. Ample space needed for manouvering in our unplanned busy Bangalore lanes and by-lanes. Many street brawls are invited between public and drivers if the vehicles brush with other vehicles or any other street pileups specially near the shops and construction areas. Finally last but not the least the general public has to scoff up more money to reach their respective destinations

  98. akhtar says:

yediyurappa ne cycle bhi aise khareeda tha school children ke liye, salon ne 500/- main kharidke 1200/- kehdiya who bhi lakhs to grether cycles, sala nano ko kharidenge adhe dam main aur batayenge pura dam. lootooooo lootooooo aur lootttooooooo tumhare bap ka mal hai loooootooooo

  99. Gerard D'Souza says:

1)This huge amount of money can be used for some other developments.. It doesnt really matter much for many people whether u travel in auto r NANO

2)NANO and Auto both have their different values. I can’t imagine suburban Mumbai without Auto. Along with Local Trains, Auto is also the lifeline of all Mumbaikars.Nano can’t take place of Autos. If they replace the Auto then we have to pay more for our travelling which is not recommendable.

  100. JAYAR says:

If NANO is made as replacement for so called AUTOS the brand will loose its present identity and people will not prefer NANO anymore for personal transport. The same thing happened to Tata INDICA which became people’s taxi.Otherwise a good idea from public transport point of view.
    JAYAR

  101. PRASAD JAIN says:

    semaa comedy sir.

    auto is best,nona is waste

  102. Arvind says:

Nano Emits more CO2 then Auto rickshaw
Nano Mileage Lesser then Auto rickshaw
Nano Price costly then Auto rickshaw
Nano Required More parking space then auto rickshaw
Nano Maintenance cost and operating cost more then of Auto rickshaw
Nano fare will be more then Auto rickshaw

80,000 auto rickshaw on road in banglore = 80,000 employment and 80,000 families survive because of these.
So Govt.please dont play with these families and banglore can become a beautiful IT city in the presence of auto and absence of nano.

is there any positives in TATA NANO ?????

  103. hemanth says:

Bajaj Autos should be persuaded to reduce the price of AutoRickshaws because the three tyres and lesser metal on the body with only One Cylinder in the engine while Nano has Four Tyres fully covered body with more metal and has Two Cylinders as engine and cost of production and investment is much higher for the Nano producers while the cost of production and investment cost is much lesser for Bajaj Autos. ofcourse unless the Govt is totally inclined to help the TATAS.

  104. neeru says:

no, i dont think that nano is a very good solution, that would be more expensive for people like us, i think autorickshaws should be LPG and should be reasonable for us.

  105. lucky says:

i agree auto rickshawala`s are rude in behaviour and need to be trainned. only at metrolpotan cities the idea of nano`s work rahter in rurals areas. afterall common man`s first choice of private transport means is the auto.

  106. pramod says:

The main drawback of Tata Nanos is a petrol vehicle and autorickshaws are LPG Enabled so probably Tata should think about adding LPG option to avoid pollution caused in the city.

  107. TerrorBiker says:

This will make the traffic condition still worst in bangalore.

  108. Rafi Perveez says:

This is great news , it will reduce the noise polution around us which is getting very hazaedous

  109. Mahendra says:

Very good move. In a way govt is teaching a lesson to the rikshaw drivers. Read some important information at http://successprinciples4all.blogspot.com/2010/07/auto-rickshaw-complaints.html. pass it on to your friends if it is useful.

  110. TAMAL says:

Who makes the most autos?? Bajaj Motors!!
Who makes the Nano?? Tata Motors!!
    Get the drift???

  111. Dharmendra Sharma says:

this is great chance to make our city more attractive and safer, autos are not safe for people and auto drivers also. It will also boost the city’s people confidence and pride.

I would love to see Nano replacing autos all over india. hope will see soon.

  112. Ronald says:

I Think it is very good initiative by Govt ,Nano is an excellent replacement to Auto rickshaws ,in chennai we have autowals who ask for extravagant charges as 10 Km drives is Rs350 ,when Nano is much safer and will be a good competetion to keep the reality pricing.I hope its the same with most of indian cities and weak govt who dont make it manditory for autowals to run only with meter fare.

  113. Vivek says:

a nano will be much safer than an auto rickshaw, although it may not be as fast since the manoeuvrability of an auto is better than that of a car 🙂

  114. TAMAL says:

BTW, Since when has CO2 emmission figures become th hallmark of environmental friendliness. What about monoxide, sulphur, SPM , noise etc?? or is this just convenient?

  115. Narahari K says:

The move is a good one. But fact is the behaviour of autowalas doensnt change if they ride car ( Nano ). Know we say autowalas are rude and next will be nanowalas. We cannot deny the fact that other riders are not rude. Behaviour of the people should change. If nano can be made more eco-friendly than rick then sure it will be new era of transport to the people of bangalore.

  116. Amit Singh says:

IT IS GOOD IDEA BUT NENO MARKET IS JUST LIKE TRANSPORT VEHICLE AND VEHICLE AUTHORITY DO PASSING & TRANSP. PASSING BETWEEN SMALL ISSUE OF THIS IDEA AND NENO HOW IT WILL RESULT DO TEXI USE …THIS IS MAIN POINT. AFTER SIX MONTH ALL DAMAGE ALL DREAMS NOT A FACTS BOT SOME IDEA IS MADE DREAMS.

  117. manoj Elango - Dubai says:

it SHOULD BE ONE OF THE STUPID MOVE BY THE GOVERMNET ..iF THEY LIKE TO UPDATE THE TRANSPORT …LET THEM OPEN THE EYE IN DEVELOP COUNTRY AND LEARN LESSON….iNSTEAD OF nANA THEY HAVE TO GO FOR GOOD MEDIAM SALLON..AND IT NEVER COST SO MUCH TO THE GOVERMNET . iF THEY GO FOR Good saloon like Tata indigo whihc will be a good TAxi car the entire project will cost less than 400 crore

  118. govindarjan says:

Whatever it may be and it should be eco-friendly
otherwise it will affect our environment subsequently it will not be good for our future generation.

    regards
    govindarajan

  119. Bond says:

well it is not about just parameters….
    here question is of ideology..
    1) on papers ( as comparison done) it looks that Auto are more eco friendly…are they ??? go on the road and you wl see autos emitting black smock like hell…and will replacing them with NANO or anything solve it… at least I dont think so.. So problem is of implementing Pollution Laws correctly..then only there is point in comparing these stats…
    2) for mileage also point is more of driving style and maintenance rather then…just on paper comparison….i m having examples where one car giving 14 Kpl was giving 12 KPl when driven by other…does that count 🙂 ofcource
    3) now we comes to most important point.. SAFETY…definatly in NANO passenger will feel a bit safe against accident..like moth in cocoon…but what about other unlawful incidents / activities where drivers themselves are indulge ( eve teasing/ rape etc) … have we thought in that perspective??? we have.. to i think..
here i might be looking negative person …giving minus & minus only..but for positive .. multiply minus and minus …that my logic says..
so here is my advice whether NANO or auto …their fleet should be properly maintained…drivers should be properly trained..both in driving and etiquette..
yaa.. NANO will show a better image in front of world but…imagine NANO with 3 persons in front and 4 in back…so keep on check on that…

Rather than overhauling fleet of vehicles …overhaul the system for proper law implementation…

People are crying for NANO against auto… they want to reach the destination safe and in good mood…they dont want to risk lives where auto drivers first turn vehicle then see if bus was coming or going in wrong way..they dont want to inhale petrol fumes and smoke…they want some basic etiquets when dealing with drivers…and biggest why we are overcharged… wouldn’t replacing with NANO will give additional trump for overcharging ” Per Km cost is higher BABA'”..so change the rotten apple rather then changing the basket…

  120. babla says:

its very good but goverment should work on to maintain the fare of nano

  121. chari N says:

It’s innovative and ecofriendly ,if autorickshaws replaced with nano provided emissions must be lesser.

  122. Prakash says:

Its really good idea.. but government has to fix the fixed chargs like from Majestic to Hebbal…etc. and has to fix the Extra Rs/Km from hebbal to there near by home.and there should be separate Nano vehicle for ladies for saftey reason. and for making profit, it has to carry atleast 2 to 3 passangers.
and about pollution.. The rishka vehicles are using more kerosine then petrol.. so it is not better to say anything about pollution.

  123. sukumar says:

As rightly said as if AUTO wallahs are only rude, even big car wallahs and other road who are erring in road are also rude & dont care masters for other road users. This will be failure i dont think should even be considered . may be this car can be used as call taxi with still lesser rates compared to the existing ones which may be ideal as whom soevere wants can hire for slightly more comfort than AUTO but lesser in fare than conventional CARS.

  124. The move is certainly a good one. 1 critical fact is that an auto rickshaw is also less stable due to 3 wheels and more prone to accidents
that’s really good idea… this should start in Mumbai as well as there is a big problem with auto wallahs here… people surely wont mind to pay more also…for better facilities. like all metro politician city where different type and categories People are there, who can afford and may not, so the choice will get to people as per their convenient.
i personally really appreciate if this happen NANO as public carrier
Thnax for allowing me for expressing my view. Suresh K Tataria

  125. SK says:

TATA NANO IS NOT STANDARD CAR I HAD SEEN FIRST TIME AFTER LAUNCHING SO NANO IS VERY CHEAP STANDARD CAR ITS ALREADY JUST AUTO, NO DOUD AND MEDIUM FAMILY AND ABOCE FAMILY NEVER LIKE THAT NANO.

    OKIES

  126. gkohli says:

if autos are more eco-friendly, these may be used for it should be CNG as in Delhi. Nano can replace existing taxis.

  127. Dharmendra Kukreja says:

This is what I had thought at the time of the launch of Tata Nano. But this will be even better if the Tata Nano is converted to CNG. I would like to see the Tata Nano on road in the place of Auto Rikshaws all over India at the earliest.

  128. HARI says:

Replacement of the noise pollutant Autorickshaws with the noiseless Nano taxis is only going to beautify Bangalore into a grandeour Metro alongside the metro-rail and the speed-rail.
A centrally controlled GPS digital fare-meter is to be introduced into these taxis that will enhance the confidence of the commuters in regards to actual travelled distance & fare.
Drivers’ License details are to be displayed/pasted on the back of the driver’s seat along with the last-conducted pollution check details.
I completely support this idea of enhancing Bangalore’s transport standards in comparison to other Metros.

  129. ravi says:

I guess there are too many facets to this discussion, but the main thing is whay is the government thinking on taxis, why can they not improve the public transport systems like buses and trains?
May be they do not get enough kick backs?

All considered NANO’s as taxis sounds so STUPID…

  130. prashanth says:

its good thinking between corporate companies and govt they will profit by these type of schemes but govt is kicking on da poor people stomach how should they live how do they by again new car there should be alter native for der solution

  131. ABC says:

Rickshaws will remain like that only due to some reasons.
It is convenient in traffic and its 2 sides are open, Nano car will take some time and will occupy space in case open the door in traffic.
Rickshaws are more fuel efficient, than Nano. If use petrol Rickshaws will give upto 25-to 30kms.
Cost of one tyre will be saved since Rickshaw has 3 wheels.

And incase govt Buy Rickshaws instead of Nano the employees must be d worst by nature and frequnt confrontation will be there with drivers, since employees will be arrogant and willnot pay any attention towards customers, other vehilcs and pedestrians. See How the Govt. Bus Employees behaving in all States of India.

  132. Suresh says:

What a great idea – when as a passenger, traveling in closed doors, no rain, no pollution, better safety etc.
What a stupid idea – when comparing the environmental hazards, see the emission rate b/w them.
When people all over the world are trying to reduce the emission of carbon-dioxide, what in the hell are we doing by bringing in Nano in place of an Auto.
    What then???
Give a second thought, may be more, to clearly understand the environment and may be these efforts/money could be invested in R&D (to safe guard the environment for our children, who will be the ones finally suffering form what we leave behind). “Are we leaving a safe world (environment) behind for the younger generation”. Common everyone ….. we need to rethink, What are we leaving behind for the future. “THINK AGAIN”

  133. Sri krishnan Gangadharan Menon says:

The behaviour of BMTC bus drivers itself is so horrible and you want to add 10000 more drivers with the same attitude?

Does not sound good. Please ask the Govt to rethink on the plan

  134. Metro Wellwisher says:

It is better to replace Auto’s with Nano’s. At the same time government must make an alternate option for the poor people who run their lives with an autorickshaw. In bangalore most of the auto drivers are like rowdies, at the same time good and decent autodrivers are there too…

  135. Rhoney says:

BMTC must take an initiative to improve the behaviour of their employees, since few of them behave rudely and cheat them by not giving proper change to passengers, BMTC officials must give them proper behaviour & attitude training too. Latest low floor buses from BMTC is excellent for city service, I request BMTC officials to remove all old and dirty buses from fleet becoz most of them are not at all good to transport even cargo’s.

  136. Anil says:

How about having a nano car instead of auto

  137. Srijith Ramachandran Datamatics says:

Amit(see comment below) we can’t understand what you are trying to say…

  138. I seen in newspapers and news bulletin that Nano Cars are not very strong as compare with cars and replacing it with autos are not a good idea because maintainance of car is very unusual task then auto. The overall cost in maintenance is high as compare to auto so it is not a good idea to replace the existing autos with nano cars.

  139. manpreet singh gill says:

I think it good decision. But this leaves bad impact on tata motors. that there product is converted into auto rickshaw.

  140. jamshed says:

I thinks that a good Idea , atleast we know that there will be 10,000/- Nano`s, but do v know the actual auto running on road i think the ratio 60% with papers actual and 40% with bogus papers and numbers and this bogus autos are the main culprit for our eco system also for nerve system u feel like hitting the driver for their behaviour. Go ahead Bangalore thats a good Idea.

  141. Srijith Ramachandran Datamatics says:

BAJAJ PLEASE CREATE SOMETHING WITH 4 WHEELS AND STOP THE PRODUCTION OF AUTO.

  142. Anand says:

Great Idea for Chennai. The auto prices in Chennai are atleast double per Kilometer that of any other metro.

Even if Bangalore does not go Nano way. CHENNAI should move to get NANO to replace autos with a “Proper meter” and “Complaints handling Police System”.

    Nano for Channai.

  143. Sushil Dhingra says:

I dont think, this idea will helping in any improvement.
Insteed of creating problem for autorickshaw drivers. Even if implemented after some time taxi driver will be same as auto rickshaw drivers.
But by this changes a lot of business will go to private company and I dont know how many people will get advantage / disadvantages of that.
Development is good idea but existing system also must run in parallel.
    Sushil Dhingra

  144. rama says:

i hope and pray that tata motors will not take up this deal.

  145. HELLO says:

weathere auto or tata nano.reduce the fuel price.u useless fellows.acting too smart.

  146. Haroon says:

Auto rickshaw is to continue, it is eco-freindly, economy and a easy means of travel with possibly less maintenance expenses. Moreover that is the means of income for thousands. But government draw a strict rules for auto rickshaw drivers and continue to moniter it.

  147. devaraj says:

    Dear Mr. Ashok
If you are more concerned about pollution, then kindly look at the state of the buses run by the state government – KSRTC & BMTC. Most of the buses are polluting by emiting more carbon dioxide beyond the permitted levels including the newly inducted Volvo & Marcopolo buses.

Why r u behind the poor autorikshaws by bringing more conflicting rules such as repainting the rikshaws with green colour, having single piece front glass instead of the three piece ones & now you want to replace the autos with nano’s.

It is a national waste if you replace the autos with nanos because.
    1. What will you do with the existing autos ?
    2. Nano’s polluting levels are more than autorikshaws.
    3. Who will bear the cost of finance (interest)?
    4. Mileage of autorickshaws are better than nano’s.

Mr. Ashok kindly look at the families dependent on autorikshaws for their living. Kindly provide better amenities to the autorickshaw drivers, educate them how to treat the customers.

Ofcourse some of the auto drivers are rude ???????

You find rude people among all people every where. Why do you blame only them.

Kindly look at the elected members of the assembly throwing slippers at the speaker ( in Bihar ). Our Auto drivers are better than them.

  148. shauvik says:

Its really true that 95% of Auto driver is too rough , they misbehave and also ask for extra charges always . If i dont any problem with Auto or Nano car . only thing Transport department strictly should arrange for punishment for Auto driver if they misbehave or charge extra . also howTraffic police check up DL ,Insurance same way should have systems of checking of Auto metre reading . Same distance if you travel by 2 auro you will get different metere reading and differnet fare . if i dont know why Authories are too blind ? first take care of all those .

  149. cha cha says:

OK, so autos-rickshaws get replaced by Nanos. They will no doubt still be driven by the same sort of driver, and in less than one year will be dented, scratched and dusty on the outside, and greasy and filthy on the inside. The drivers will refuse to use AC in order to save money “AC broken!”, so riders will sit in hot little cars and suffer. I happen to like autos. They take less room in traffic, you do not have to open a door to get in and out, and they turn around in absolutely no space. When running on CNG they do not pollute. I agree about rude and cheating drivers…but a Nano isn’t going to change that.

  150. vinay says:

Good idea. Govt can load LPG kit to reduce the pollution level.

  151. prem anand says:

I’VE SEEN IN Dubai,Bangkok,Singapore,Hong Kong and few other countries as well where taxis are of high end models ply the road cars such as TOYOTA CAMRY,TOYOTA COROLLA,MERCEDES BENZ,TOYOTA ALTIS are run as taxis in these countries so whats wrong in karnataka government introducing nano cars which is actually so cheap and it’ll be comfortable for passengers more than that of an auto rickshaw,i request the karnataka govt to implement this project on priority basis and any how tata vehicles are good for nothing in the first place.

  152. chandru says:

    good welcomin idea.. hats off…

  153. SS says:

If the NANOs were there before Autos, people would have welcomed Autos in place of NANOs. Now Autos are there so people welcome NANOs. People always look for a change in their lifestyle.

  154. suriya says:

good to hear an innovative govt in karnataka same as gujarat.
Bringing Tata Nano Never Helps the people, ownership of the Nanos should be with Goverment not to a Mla or Police inspector.particularly In chennai this happens , most auto drivers are Harshly Behaving because of their ownership backup and their power.negotiating for a commodity or for a service is a right of a consumer.if somebody negotiates for a auto charge in chennai they are thrashed by bad words by auto drivers.they don’t have any rights to speak a bad words to a consumer.if they drive according to a meter system why consumers wants to negotiate.for a local chennaite is facing this problem means think of a new comer to chennai?.

auto drivers and Bus conductors are the code of conduct for a city.

Police is responsible for their behaviours
    adithi devo bava!

  155. Yes. I think, we may allow this move to happen. But it is highly essential that the Tata Nano seems to be non-eco friendly in terms of co2 emmission. In today’s scenario of Climate change stuff, we must address this issue also.

However, I support to replace Auto rickshaw by Nano, as they are better placed & less accidents

  156. kaleem says:

Dear Friendz I recomend the nano to go head and purchase coz instred of auto I think the nano is the best for every drivers, the driver can use the Nano as commercial use and as personal use for their family it wont look ocword or shame to face public to see,,east or west I tell the NANO is the Best, sab bolo nano ki jai Nano ki jai tata ki jai ……….Nano ko Ghar laooo aur Garibee ko Bhagaooo, bolo Nano ki Jai Bolo Nano ki jai……….

  157. N.Dharmesh says:

If Bangalore repalces autos with nanos,
    will Chennai lag behind?

  158. AJAY KUMAR TARWAY says:

READ THAT MAHARASTRA GOVT WANTS TO REPLACE AUTO TO NANO AS PER THEIR RESONS WHICH ARE BASELESS. WHAT IS THE GURANTEE THAT NANO DRIVERS WILL NOT BEHAVE THE SAME WITH THE CUSTOMERS. RUNNING ON ROAD 24 HOURS IS A HERCULIAN TASK AND POORS ARE EARNING FROM THAT. SOME TIME THERE IS A HOT DIALOGS BEETWEEN CUSTOMERS AND THE DRIVER BUT ALL THE TIME DRIVER SHOULD NOT BE BLAMED. SPECIALLY IT STARTS FOR FAIR. IN ALL SIGMENT IT HAPPENS CANT WE SEE THAT IF THERE ARE LOTS OF PASSENGERS FOR AIR THE FAIR IS CHARGED LIKE ANY THING FROM THE PASSENGERS BUT THEY ARE BIG HOUSES SO EVERY THING IS FINE AND FIT. ADD NEW BUT NOT REPLACE. HELP PORRS BUT NOT SWIP THEM.

  159. MOHANDAS says:

Again I would like to put a piece. There are autos CNG fuelled those are cheaper in comparison to petrol at the same time pollution level much lower. If more CNG fuelling stations are introduced, the demand for petrol take a snails pace at the same time pollution will be under control.this will also give a lot of piece of mind to human beings and everyday increase on essentials for living will retard and a daily agenda of hartals and strikes can be minimised.Let us think in the long run and new brands of vehicles come out with modified versions of engines with alternate fuel.I do not agree any government proposing to create revenue by increasing the pollution. After all if humanbeings exist,ONLY such colourful vehicles creep.

  160. Hazarika says:

Love to see them as Taxi

  161. george says:

so embarassing to……….hear this comment…………..tata to beg the pardon of..bajaj………………….

  162. ved says:

if tata nano will replace all auto ricksha than fine that all over india should change that either if not india than only new delhi should do that

  163. Taranath says:

THIS IS A GOOD IDEA.BUT QUESTION IS HOW THIS WILL BE IMPLEMENTED.WHO WILL OWN THE TAXIS.HOW MUCH MONEY WHILE BUYING WILL GO TO MINISTER’S POCKET.
WHAT WILL BE THE BENEFITS OF CONSUMER ?? SAME AUTO DRIVER ? SAME BAD WORDS?SAME CHEATING IN FARES ? EXTRA FARE ? LET THE MINISTER TO ANSWER THESE QUESTIONS FIRST.

  164. anil malkar says:

ya this is good idea from tatas we can have a pleasant and happy journey free from sounds n air pollution

  165. N Sirish Kumar says:

its always preferable in choosing a nano replacing an autorickshaw….bcoz they are the most violating vehicles in the aspect of traffic regulations which leads to traffic jams and accidents.finally a city like bangalore should opt nano as a better option.

  166. Ganesh.GH says:

i read the all commitment of the people, some of them is ok and wrong,
whythe people are thinking the future of the world,
the goverment and nano company discussing their business what everrr so,make them their dission we will do what we want yours life.
join together hands make india grow.
    not the business.

  167. hrishikesh says:

    Very good idea!
Everyone knows the amount of smoke the auto rickshaws emit &even the noise too!!!
    noise & sound pollution!
That smoke kills me & their f……king behaviour! Go to hell those fellows!
this plan should be implemented ASAP!

  168. Ganesh.GH says:

read the all commitment of the people, some of them is ok and wrong,
whythe people are not thinking the future of the world,
the goverment and nano company discussing their business what everrr so,make them their dission we will do what we want yours life.
join together hands make india grow.
    not the business.

  169. shivaraj says:

We have to think about existing auto drivers before switching over to new system. It feel very good if people can travel by a car paying same fare of auto.

  170. this move is not bad only for Bangalore but also for whole country. Why not trying with Speedy Solar Operated Tricycle in place of motorised vehicles! CMERI and the Centre for Rural Development (CRD)have been trying its pilot at Chandni Chowk, New Delhi….anyboody wanna know more, please contact…..

  171. this move is not bad only for Bangalore but also for whole country. Why not trying with Speedy Solar Operated Tricycle in place of motorised vehicles! CMERI and the Centre for Rural Development (CRD)have been trying its pilot at Chandni Chowk, New Delhi….anyboody wanna know more, please think before this move…help to make a green country!

  172. vijaylabana says:

if nano become cng then ok otherwise must be opposed

  173. J PRINCE says:

Autos r best than NANO Car in all aspect.

  174. LAXMIKANT says:

This would be crazy if BMTC goes with the plan. Now the Netas and Babus should think big and Implement the same.

First ” Nano ” is definetly a beautiful car. No ill feelings about it.

    1. Just to keep check on Auto drivers this is not a solution at all. There are other ways where you can handle these people by introducing prepaid Auto system and it should be monitored strictly.

    2. Looking at environment aspect the pollution level from Nano is higher than Auto Rickshaws.

    3. Govt should think on Mass and Rapid transport system through which we will not only save lot of money in foreign exchange but also lay a path for greener environment for our future generations. Apart from that definetly it will put less burden on common man in terms of fare.

4.Last but not least we have to change ourselves first to let this happen.

  175. Anbu says:

The fact clearly shows that introducing nano will effect the atmosphere. Further, the durability of the autos are much more than that of nano. Also taken into consideration of safety futures auto is better vehicle than that of nano. Hence, the Karnataka Government which is already facing problems because of Reddy brothers should not add fuel by wasting public money without doing proper survey. The implementation is not for helping TATA or Gujarat Government.

  176. Bala says:

I think he is in a hurry to make some fast money….TATAs please don’t take this offer….

  177. my hearty congrats to Nano motors for having brought ”A Nano auto” .Let us wait and see how it works. . as Nano car project could not become .. user friendly,@mohd.azam. karimnager. a.p. .india.@

  178. arun chitnis says:

Already so many vehicles on road. There is no parking space & how goverment introducing this type of proposal.
First make wide roads & footpaths, introduce good signal systems, clean & neat subways near station, junction areas.

  179. WoW… indeed this an innovative idea. This is applicable none other than India only!!
Few FINE TUNING are required which follows here:
    1) All four doors are to be removed to facilitate carrying overflow passengers.
    2) Installation of a carrier on top must to carry vegetables, school-bags etc.
    3) Same three-wheeler driving license can be used to drive this special NANO.
    4) There should not be any Meter to avoid confusion.
    5) Only loud Desi Bhajan to be played by music system.
    6) There should be only one color for this special Nano – Yellow.
    7) In rear punch line should be:
    “MAA KASAM
    MERI GADI”

  180. Kaisar says:

Why few people are always against a better change?

When Autos were introduced, they were sympathising with Tongawallas.

When Computers were introduces, they were worrying about workers.

When Nano is being considered for public transport, now they are worried about the Autowallas.

After introduction of Autos, tongawallas survived and adapted to Autos. Computers did not take away jobs but created far many jobs than one could imagin.

Would we ever come out of our 3rd world image and mentality?

Remove these autos and bring Nanos. (make it run on CNG if possible). They would be safer, comfortable and attractive. (let these Autos not find their way in other part of the country, creat a scrapyard beforehand)

Sorry to say but in last 40 years the Auto are still as unattractive, uncomfortable and unsafe. Bajaj just forgot to evolve it. Very sad….It has to perish and the time is NOW.

  181. Mahavir Singh says:

In my opinion TATA NANO is not a good car. But it’s not the worst if nano’s would be used as autos the fare would raise, lower class families would not be able to afford that. and would not get a good imperession on TATA’s.

  182. Arun Purohit says:

Excellent idea,Some of autowalas misbehaviouring / non-sense traffic sense. Ultimately citizens / traffic policemen has to suffers.

This is the best way out for comfort ……….. Arun Purohit

  183. Sujoy Ghosh says:

Yes excellent idea. But Eco being the catch word have these four wheelers operate on CNG and to start with LPG.But then we have to contend with the Bengali B retrograde commies. In Bengal first they objected to Computers then changing to LPG autos. And then we have the auto experts like the current Mayor of Kolkata Municipal Corpn.who advocated retrofitted two stroke autos. So Bengalies have to leave things to Lady Luck for survival. What Bengal thinks today India thought it the day before yesterday! Sujoy Ghosh

  184. K says:

Change for the better is always welcome…(most ofter “better” is
hard to figure at a given moment.. and also depends on who you
    talk to)

The Move sounds nice…. Since we are doing it now, why not look
at a real “green” option ? Like electric car ? OR Modified Nano’s
to run of CNG to begin with with an understanding of going electric
(or anything better option over time)…. solar…

Also take this opportunity to re-train drivers to understand the
benefits of lane driving, patience as a virtue…

  185. PALANI.S says:

I don’t think this will replace autorickshaw, but it is better replacement for other call taxies. bcz the govt is going to manage this project with 40:60 shares with the drivers. so no extra charge,.. extra passengers,..the bill for service(let us believe these all will happen)…

    I welcome it…

  186. Karnataka government’s decision is good to the extent but auto rickshaw’s existence will b d same as it is. since long yrs & decades, auto rickshaws have been running all over india and it’s existence can never be vanished in just 1 or 2 years even in d city like banglore & mumbai, better to keep both the options open, likewise in mumbai, only taxi is for mumbai & rickshaws for subarbans, in d same way, Banglore can also keep the NANOs for reputed areas and rickshaws for other areas. any by keeping both the options open, people will also come into benefit, those who afford NANO feel good & those who dont can prefer Auto. Banglore or some other cities may also prefer to introduce other comfortable cars as taxis for affordable people only.

  187. mohammed khasim says:

what a great idea, atleast we will be able to survive without those noisy ear deafening silencers. dont mind paying more to get rid of these arrogant autowallas.

  188. wasim says:

Tata nanos as autos ? What an excellent idea !! Do the same in Mumbai too,,, is BMC listening ??

  189. Shekhar says:

As if the Karnataka Govt has no work and as of whatever they do, they do good? What a waste of Govt’s time and money on such trivial issue when they cant give justice to the major problems in the mining sector. What do they get by troubling the poor rickshawwalas, who make their living in this small sector. And on the Rickshaw drivers fights…are they the only once to behave gently. We the people are not bothered about the large scall robbers like the miners, scamsters, illegal builders, corrupt officials, mall owners who put whatever price tags they want on clothes, etc. and just try to preach law to the poor rickshaw drivers, because we can only fight them ? Please leave them alone and allow then their decent share of earnings so that they feed their families whatever they can honestly.

  190. Satish says:

As on nano only car shspe but back side engine evry thing like 7 seater auto model(hyderbad)

Nano not car only 7 seater auto

  191. rohit says:

well the behavior of autoricshaw drivers is rather harsh but there’s no need to rob their jobs just to teach them a lesson . You can start by fining them or teach them abt ethics and how to behave with people and customer . Govt instead of wasting public money to create new transportation system , they should use that money to try to improve the current one

  192. Prabhaat Chaturvedi says:

Hi Idea is good but before changing from autorikshow to Nano they have keep watch rikshow driver as they always ask wrog money they don’t want to go near area or by meter or whenever they are ready 90% of drivers ask Rs. 10-20 more then meter. so first they have to control these thing then go ahead

  193. Rhmool says:

When It comes to emmision of CO2, how mant Auto-rikshaws are properly maintained to emit the above said 87.2 and 85.6.How many autos use recomended engine oils and how many Auto drivers drive safe and how many auto drivers use the said Auto-Meter.Its because at present the Auto rikshaw is a monopoly and there is no other service which competes to the auto-rikshaw. Its good to have a alternative like this for the Auto service so that they can not dominate the passengers way of travelling. And if the service comes directly from the govt that should be welcomed by the public.

  194. parthasarathy says:

There are quite a few advantages in having NANO in place of autos. Comparative safety, protection against all weather and traveling comforts are points in favour. I am a Chennaite and know the problems here as correctly pointed out by SIMI. Basically what is lacking amongst most of the auto drivers is courtesy and honesty. Even one rupee increase in fuel cost will amount to fleecing the public ten times more. The meter fitted is just for show and the Transport officials and the police turn a Nelson’s eye. That is because most of the autos belong to police officials and also the elected citizens of this Republic. I remember the Minister of State saying, ” After all, we have raised the cost of fuel by only one rupee and why all this agitation ?” Perhaps he is not aware that raise of one rupee makes the auto driver demand atleast ten rupees more. Top people who make such casual remarks should be made to stay in Chennai for a week, engage autos and go around the city and pay all charges from their pockets. The expenses should be borne by the individuals and no reimbursement given. It is to be borne in mind, it is not so much the comforts but the reasonable charges and pleasant attitude of the auto driver that matters. If Nanos are going to be driven by the same auto drivers I would rather walk all the way. These drivers are to be dealt with without pity, without fear and without remorse.

  195. dea vas says:

    Are you insane?
Why let go of national specific only for the sake of image?
What comfort when streets are not good?
Why not care about the air that you breath?

  196. dea vas says:

    P.S.
And what about the income of the poor people whose livelihood depends on rickshaw?

  197. koshy mathew says:

very good idea this is a good thing for passengers and the drivers

  198. parthasarathy says:

After going through the comments of those who have expressed their views I find some of them have expressed concern about the fate of the auto drivers. How many of these people have sympathies for the user public ? How many of these know what humiliation the user public face and how many of them know how your complaints are dealt with by the police and the transport authorities ? Who is more important, the auto driver or the suffering public ? I recommend a rational thinking. Whether it is a Nano taxi or an autorickshaw it is how your journey has ended that matters.

  199. This idea can change auto Rickshaw Driver ‘s menatality and they will realy upgrade and it will benificiary to maintaine traffic see today they r not driving and maintaine driving sence as per law So my request is To My State C.M Mr.Modi please start these from our City
Ahmedabad and also encurrage to Taxi sysytem so civilian will be
drive theie vehicle with piece fully and please do not take this point
as negativly see Tata has made first so tata will get benefit and if bajaj and Mahindra or any body can lounch this product and can sell.
Just UPGRADE Our This AUTO RICKSHAW SYSTEM AND DRIVERS ATLEAST DECEPLINE WILL COME DEFINATLY IN TRAFIIC.
    THANKS

  200. sadiq says:

Tata or Auto a strict monitoring is must by the authorities, with out that we are suffring and we will suffer.

  201. Ram says:

If anybody comes to Bangalore, in the first sight he can notice the way, how autos are driven in the roads. They will never allow any other vehicle to move freely. Not only autos, but some other vehicles (BMTC buses for example) also contribute to this. It seems the road is their own. Other than that, the worst part about the autos in bangalore the sound they make. When an auto is nearby, you just have to shut your ears. None of the other vehicles make such large and irritating sound.
Other than that, about the comparision between the emmission by auto and Nano, I just can’t believe the figures given. If you have a look at the exhaust of any auto in bangalore, you will understand the reason behind my dis-belief.

  202. kannadiga says:

The move is good, only if the nano drivers are given proper training to behave themselves. Because, 90 percent of the auto drivers in Karnataka dont know how to behave properly. Though karnataka is an IT city, the auto drivers behave as if its a goonda city. They demand extra for every route by stating that they wont get return ride. Is it the duty of the passenger to give them return routes ? They have fixed a rate by themselves for each and every route and want passengers to comply with them at any cost. If you dont agree, then your day is gone. They wont take you . They would say ” Barrakkaagalla” which means ” I cant come to your destination” This is like saying ” GO TO HELL YOU PASSENGER, WE ARE HERE TO HAVE FUN”
Lets hope that NANO drivers are also not trained in the same fashion.

    GOD SAVE KARNATAKA !!!!

  203. the maharashtra government should learn a lesson from this.

  204. hitesh chauhan says:

its good idea to replace auto’s for comfort., but regarding rhe statements stating that the arrogent behaviour may changes its not so., it will be the same no one can change auto drivers attitude., first of all they should be thought how to react with people., these autodrivers react as if they are doing favours by providing there services., these auto drivers dont have road sense at all they drive as if they are the only drivers driving on the roads., so we should think wat can be done to smooth understanding between passenger and autodrivers

  205. P.Praveen Kumar says:

No way Sir. Nanos are designed to be family cars. They cannot be public carriers. By the time a Nano does 10km, an auto might have done a good 100km to give the driver some returns. A public carrier needs high maintenance and almost all auto drivers know how to fix small problems in their auto. Though Nano and auto cost the same initially, the former guzzles comparatively more fuel and involves expensive maintenance and an average driver cannot fix small problems if the car stalls. So there!

  206. ASHISH RAIKAR says:

It’s a stupid idea as it will not only increase polution but depreciate the value of peoples car “NANO”. Govt should try for electric vehicles for public transport accross India.

  207. Vinod says:

Wow! This is a fantastic idea. The autos are an eye sore and very noisy for most people. They are also the cities major pollutant barring the ones that run on CNG or LPG.There are 80k to 100k autos in Bangalore and 10k Nanos cannot replace them unless the BMTC phases the autos out over a 3-5 year period putting in sufficient time and effort to rehabilitate auto drivers well.Factory por custom fitted CNG Nanos are a good soluytion and will be compliant with safety and pollution prevention norms. The course in etiquette is also a good idea but we have to have faith in the drivers to see they adopt these learnings and practice them.

FOr your information China has Volkswagon Jettas as taxis in Guangzhou, Toyota Crown luxury Saloons in Hongkong, Hyundai Verna in Beijing, Toyota Corolla and Hyundai Elantra in Shanghai and Suzuki SX 4 in all other big cities as taxis. They have trains that travel at 431 kms per hour and have multi layered flyover for kilometres across all cities and multi laned highways in all cities. They also have great the worlds fastest trains and the most efficient metro rail systems too. We have a long way to go before we start claiming paralells with China’s infrastructure and public transport efficiency. But starting with Nanos in Bangalore is a great idea for a start.

  208. deepak gupta says:

No this is not a good idea. Nano should not be allowed to run in place of auto rickshaw. LPG/CNG rickshaw are the most cost effective way of personal tranport for common man.

A car with driver will always be treated as cab and would be more expensive. Also from pollution point of view auto are much better. Any how you can not compare 175 CC with 660 cc engine. They are less cost effective.

Those who want more safety would any way use radio taxi which is approx 10/km.

I can only request BMTC not to carry on with this idea.Instead BMTC should encourage any auto mobile company to introduce battery driven vehicles in place of auto.

  209. Ashok Kumar Bharadhwaj says:

I am surprised by all your comments. Which politician ever thinks about public health or safety before introducing a new scheme. This is another way to fill their pockets. And we are happy to have the leftover morsel. With regards to the auto drivers attitude, I have avoided use of auto for the past several years and prefer call taxis. With call taxis I at least know what I need to pay. In any business demand creates arrogance and lack of demand creates competition and greater respect for the consumer. This is the universal truth.

  210. vishwajeet says:

Why Tata has has given us NANO ????????? can any one understand!!!!!! NANO is not introduced make only profits it is given us to achieve a dream of a common man, a middle class family. who wants to have car out side of his house. thats the reason TATA’s given NANO so i think karnataka Govt is not taking a good decision and Tata Motor should not go with this deal

  211. Sankha Das says:

wow ! new innovations, new ideas, new india !

  212. Rama Nathan says:

The move does not seem sensible at all. All said and done the autos are more eco friendly and is also delivering 5km longer than the Nano per liter of fuel. This is for petrol. If it is LPG / CNG autos may turn out to be even more better as far as the ecology is concerned. As for behaviour, nothing would change the way they conduct and carry themselves. If the government is serious; proper training should be given even before the issue of the driving license. But then well, the drivers are a clan unto themselves all over the country.
Nano is a car in great demand! At least that is what it is made out to be. Is the government going to wait long or pay a premium to get the car faster? All said and done, why on earth should they invest and earn
only 40%?? Are they bringing about a blatant way to enrich the pockets of the politicians? Auto drivers are known for their recklessness. If the investment is from the government……….one can well imagine how the drivers will drive………….they will drive others mad and drive their cars like mad!! Dear Minister, please drop this God forsaken idea. There are so many great ideas and things that wait for your noble consideration.

  213. sid says:

Not good solution for Delhi, closed Nanos will bring more crime and more traffic problems.

  214. rgs says:

Looks like a good deal between the minister and Tata

  215. Raju says:

I observed in Hyderabad, the rash behavior and refusal to come to a particular place, rapidly vanished, when the seven seater autos were permitted in the city. Later of course the seven seater autos were banned in the city and permitted only in the suburbs. But while the seven seater autos were plying, the autos were coming to any place, were courteous, asking for people to board the autos, (yes true!). What I learnt, is that a little competion, goes a long way in improving the services. Administrative measures will have only a marginal effect

  216. basanta says:

first, u cant generalize all auto drivers as stupid. no doubt, most of them are, but i encountered many very honest and helpful auto drivers in places like delhi.
second, civic sense will create problem whether its auto or nano. to be frank, civic sense lacks in most people from bihar, UP n haryana. n the constitute the most labor force in n india; no doubt, why we get a bitter image of n india because of them.
third, replacing autorishwa with nano ll not do any good, if we dont care abt exploding population, lack of civic amenities, lack of food n basic needs to millions, corruption etc., to namea few

  217. Akash Bathla says:

Don’t know about the public transport but TATA’s do have a bad luck… there Indica turned into taxies and Nano is proposed to be the future autorickshaws… 😛

  218. Mohan Shah says:

Replacing Nano with Auto is a good thought… but looking at the CO2 emission data – are we willing to pollute the environment for luxury? Also, is it wise to increase vehicles on the roads vs improving existing autos/transport system?
Why isnt this initiative a success with electric cars such as Reva?? Or what initiative can Tata Motors undertake to reduce the emmission levels? In any case if the government is willing to invest, what are the other alternatives such as (1)working with Bajaj to redesign the autos for luxury (2)regulating or penalizing the autos that violate the correct fuel mixture (3)Investing in electric autos…
Would 10000 Nanos solve the problem?

  219. S.Prasad says:

For starters , Nanos occupy more space and are less maneuverable in traffic. In the already congested roads of Bangalore it will only cause more congestion.

Its a sheer waste of tax payers money. If the Nanos make commercial and practical sense, the auto owners themselves will switch over to Nanos. IF the govt really wants to catalyse the introduction of Nanos, let them provide loans at lower rates of interest to auto owners who want to change over to Nanos.
On the face of it , looks like this is a scheme for the ministry in Karnataka to make some quick bucks and kick backs.

  220. kishore says:

Well this would be a good idea…
    The figures above says
“Tata Nano emits 101 grams of CO2 per kilometer while 2-stroke and 4-stroke auto-rickshaws emit 87.2 and 85.6 CO2/km respectively. LPG autos’ figures are even less. So autorickshaws are evidently more eco-friendly”

Most of the autodrivers are not using pure petrol but mixing them with Kerosene which is causing more polution in the city or the government should pass a rule that all the Auto should he using LPG

  221. ayub khan says:

Not good solution for Delhi, closed Nanos will bring more crime and more traffic problems.ayub khan

  222. V.Jagdish Prakash says:

Ever since the NANO arrived on the road I have been advising auto drivers in Kerala to quit auto and take up NANO. Especially in Kerala which is always rainy and passengers get wet. Most children also travel to school by auto and get sick frequently due to the cold draft they are exposed to early in the morning.
Auto rickshaws are a thing of the past and should be banned.
Polution records compare only ideal conditions between auto and NANO but it goes without saying the amount of oil autos burn and the noise polution is horrible especially in Bengaloru. It is high time auto drivers in Bengalure are taught a lesson. I have had bad experiences, rising tempers and fights and also lost property cause of cheating auto drivers in Benagluru since my childhood in Bengaluru.
Nano is a common sense answer to replace auto rickshaws, see for example Mumbai.
People in a metropolis have enough income to travel in style, respect and well protected from weather. Regards to safety, driver display cards and availability of cell phones is ample protection. Inaction or timidness of the good people encourage the bad people.

  223. Karan says:

no one will mind all this compared to the tussle one has to face with autowalas…

  224. AVEERAL says:

Be it autos or Tata Nano, the drivers are gonna be the same….the very same rowdy misbehaved assholes. You can’t expect a New York City’s Yellow Taxi system by replacing autos with Nanos in any Indian city or Bangalore for that matter. The only solution is to slowly and slowly reduce autos and encourage Taxis and above all a strict enforcement of rules and guidelines set by the Transport Authority of the concerned city……then only it would be helpful

  225. Hitesh T says:

Behaviour may not change but, the image will certainly change to better, especially in metropolitan cities. The safety bar will be raised with a ‘closed door’ vehicle, than the open ‘sun n rain’ vehicle. Value wise too the Bajaj has had enough of monopoly for long and has been charging an amount for which you get the NANO technology now. Arguably the mileage and CNG capabilities are a challenge, but if TATA has to make 10,000 vehicles just for one order…certainly they will take over this challenge too and bring an improvised version.

Rickshaws on the other hand may not be abolished from all cities, as it is yet a cheap mode of transport for the interiors of the country. With more rickshaws available accessibility to the rural areas would be much easier. Besides, Rickshaws can be used for promoting tourism at historical sites and remote tourist destinations; like TUK -TUKs being used in some east Asian countries and in Sri Lanka, are a craze amongst the tourists.

  226. amolpatil2k says:

It is like going to a shop and closing the door behind you. A lot of ladies might not be too comfortable with that idea. Using the same platform, Tata should make a 4 wheeler auto that is open like the 3 wheeled one. And preferrably one which runs on CNG or batteries.

  227. Vidyadharan kasaragod Thayal says:

Like private and public bus trasport systems let autos and nanos ply on the road with passengers.Suddenly banning autos will be disaterous. This will automatically fine tune the behavioural aspects of auto drivers. While alloting permits, unemployed educated men and women may be given priority .

  228. deepak says:

Thats correct as kannadigga mentioned “90 percent of the auto drivers in Karnataka dont know how to behave properly.”they are the worst in India

  229. Rahul M says:

Bringing in Nanos to help people who are suffering the auto rickshaw drivers is an eyewash. The main issue is the attitude of the drivers and their culture and lack of respect. These same auto ricksha drivers will go on to become Nano drivers, then what will Govt. do?? Buy Maruti Alto?
The way to solve the problem is to put them in tight leash and have a control room where people can call immediately and report abuse. The meter system should be tamper proof. Action should be taken against complaints reported.

  230. sasirababu says:

Introducing Nano is a novel idea. This may serve as another cheap mode of transport for the public.Compared to an auto, nano offers space for more passengers, luggage, has ac, and a safer travel.perhaps serve as a vehicle between an auto and taxi. I think people like it.When i have a choice I go by a nano rather than an auto.

  231. Omkar K Dutt says:

Autos in India very shabily maintained and the asthetic look very bad compared to Nano.Auto drivers are also not well mannered in dealing with their customers
In small country like Thailand autos are so maintained one feels like owning one.
We have to think on the rate of increase of fare every now and then in both the cases.
Auto ride is bad for people with back ache problems and son

  232. […] Sleek Tata Nanos to Replace Rasping Autos Gentlemanly behavior by auto drivers in India is something you can only dream about. I bet there’s hardly anyone […] […]

  233. Manavalan says:

    OK.How much the fare?
Same price ? Since it is car.
Every middle class concern about the price.is in it?!

  234. Anoop says:

Good Idea! But not for practical.

  235. Anoop says:

Good Idea. but not for practical.

  236. paresh says:

buying new models / vehicle is not the solution of the problem
of manners because these new vehicle will be driven by same persons.

as shown in article autorickshaws are evidently more eco-friendly,it would be better to educate the drivers

  237. sudharshan reddd says:

closed nanos r not safe, i think open nanos r more convienent & safe

  238. Dayanandh says:

This will be the best plan to destroy India.. More than 50% of the air pollution is due automobile exhaust, Europeans and Americans are working for zero emissions. this plan should be fired.
Already trees in bangalore are shredded for metro trains. This will be a shameful move if we implement.

  239. Parveen says:

The move is certainly a bad idea from auto rickshaws to Nano
Auto rickshaws is very cheap and carry four person and more. Replace bad drivers to good drivers who follows traffic rules and regulation.
Give jobs to who failed or passed S.S.L.C. persons. Most of auto drivers are Goonda, crimal. reapers and looters from women passangers.
Nano may increase in Traffic and parking space problems.

  240. Gopi says:

bangalore traffic is always a indisciplinary and non tolerable shity traffic. That too auto drivers are the most arrogant people, not only in Bangalore it’s quiet common in all the cities in India. If Nano is being replaced the first and foremost thing will be that irritating auto sound in the traffic which crates the NOICE POLLUTION WHICH IS MORE IRRTATING during driving. As per the discipline is concern the Government should take steps to train the DISCIPLINED DRIVING “ATLEAST SWITCH ON THE INDICATORS LIGHT WHILE DRIVING”, whihc is never for a Auto driver. The test should be severe and ensure that the drivers who passes out from the test is qualified for touching this GREAT CREATIVITY OF TATA – CAR FOR A LAKH, where TATA has made the middle class people of owning a car very economically which was just a dream.
    “HAT’S OFF TO TATA”

  241. Abdur Razzak says:

Dis is a great idea. It will change the look of the road and give good image to the foreign countries and provide comfortable journey to the passenger. Go India Go………

  242. Roy says:

It is always difficult to accept the newness in the areas of innovative developments. Every change in the society pass through a period of challenge and difficulty to reach the present development. All should have the capacity welcome newness of life.

  243. r krishnamurthy says:

I think auto drivers in Bangalore are far better than in most other cities.generally they run by meter. The idea sounds good. But train auto drivers in driving the Nano and phase out autos. Also provide financial assistance to auto drivers for buying the Nano and getting license. The license should be given on objective driving tests and should be above board. No one should demand extra money for obtaining the license. If we have the will we can do all this .Bangalore is a peaceful city where people are quite gentle. All this should be planned and executed along with the launching of the metro rail.

If one can think of a society fully developed, it had a time of struggle and toil. Let us give a new look to our cities, though some time development is politically oriented.

  245. kudrat says:

actually… nano was already an auto rickshaw.. thank god it can b officially said so.. “Dowry” problem is more in south india then the north.. and whichever family gave “Nano” in dowry, now there Son-in-law would get quite angry 2 get Nano.. i mean auto in Dowry… hehehehhheheh…”india Shining”

  246. vicky says:

A eco-friendly(BATT or CNG) small vehicle should be the choice rather then NANO.

And whatever be the transport, the things to concentrate on are,
    a) The driver’s behaviour with common public.
    b) The fare rules should be strictly implemented, so that we can’t be charged extra by these auto/taxi drivers.

  247. praveen says:

It is a good idea but needs some modification. Tata nanos should not have 4 doors so that it not only saves govt. money(cost of 4 doors will be reduced along with fitting charges) but also increases safety. On the other hand it should not ban the autos. In case if it bans bajaj autos then govt. should only replace those autos and exchange them with new tata nanos. Of course it will be a burden to govt. but it can be neglected by the happiness it had given to the autorickshaw owners.

  248. pankaj says:

replacing auto rickshaws wouldnt be a good idea because auto is convenient in traffic and its 2 sides are open, Nano car will take some time and will occupy space in case open the door in traffic.
Rickshaws are more fuel efficient, than Nano. If use petrol Rickshaws will give upto 25-to 30kms.
Cost of one tyre will be saved since Rickshaw has 3 wheels.

  249. BABU says:

BMTC ADVERTISES 1 BUS IS EQUAL TO 40 CARS AND THEY THEMSELVES BUY 10000 CARS. ADVICE IS FOR OTHERS ONLY. INSTEAD BUY 250 NEW BUSES.

  250. Nano wont be used for Commerical Purposes, but only personal use was the norm given. Hence Travel and Tours people use Indica not Nano.
And if Nano is used for Commercial, then tata forced bajaj to delay their low cost cars Launch and selling. Hence its unfair for Nano to reap all market. Else we have got the Bettle Vs TModel wars coming ??
Hello Study – Yahoo news !!!! Level of expertise Expected !!!!!

    Tatas hold back your Greed.

  251. kumar says:

Thank God ! It’s going to be the end of the most dirty and stupid vehicle on the earth ! The killer wedge on the roads ! I am happy ther’s a thought on that line to replace the autorickshaws. Let every autorickshaw be thrown and NANOs takeover.

  252. RR says:

Bull shit, It would be a great idea by the proposer. Just think about the lot of families surviving in bangalore purely income from driving autorickshaws.

Think about the % of crime increase in a mobile closed chamber than the open auto rickshaws we see in our day-today life.

Guys – Pl. think before commenting, then you will not speak about the comfortability, technical issues, green, eco system, etc….

  253. john dsouza says:

INSTEAD OF REPLACING AUTO RICKSHAWS WITH TATA NANOS – THE GOVERNMENT CAN DO ONE THING ; HIRE AUTO RICKSHAWS FROM PUBLIC AND APPOINT DRIVERS SO THAT DRIVERS WILL BE IN FULL CONTROL OF GOVERNMENT.THERE SHOULD BE COMMITTEE OR CUSTOMER RELATIONS DEPT TO SOLVE THE PUBLIC PROBLEMS.

NOWADAYS POLICE AND GOVERNMENT CELLS ARE COMPLETELY DEAF TOWARDS THE NORMAL PUBLIC COMPLAINTS ; AND THE AUTODRIVERS ARE OPENLY ENJOYING “”””DADAGIRI “”””WHICH IS TO STOPPED IMMEDIATELY.

    REASONS
    1. Lessons in etiquette for auto drivers.
    A. Buy out some TATA nanos replace autos on road.
(p.s. how is it going to change the issue (etiquette) by
    threatening).

    2. Making city look good.
    A. Why should Govt think about well-managed mass public
transport systems or even so why it should bother about
repairing and maintaining roads or cleanliness of city, waste
    management, drainage management etc.
(p.s. Replace blunt autos with sleek TATA nanos that resolves it)

    3. Govt. and auto driver making profits 40:60 by buying TATA nano.
    A. Hahahaha…who is going to profit REALLY??? TATA Inc. or the
person authorizing purchase in commission..10,000…it should be
    hefty.

MY QUESTIONS Mr. R. Ashoka to you.

    i. Why TATA nano with all the emission problems? Where are you
planning on sending Bangloreans with the already
overburdened pollution concerns. (p.s. hybrid electrical cars
    are there in India).
ii. If at all you are thinking about small cars replacing autos
because of safety concerns, who gave them the certificates of
road worthiness to even manufacture such vehicles? Are you
saying that authority in India is not functioning?
iii. If you have some other reasons BEST OF LUCK with it,
“SARKAR KA MAAL DARIYAA MEIN DAAL.”

“Sorry people, we have chosen the Decision Makers, who will
    decide when to XXXK us.”

THUMB RULE: In India, if you want to make profits do business with
    Government.(pocket influence first)

  255. Niraj Joshi says:

Why we dont think of Solar energy or any other alternative to petrol/disel?
government should implement that kind of solutions.

  256. K V S Mani says:

I think it is avery stupid idea. The problem is not with the Auto but with the drivers. If the same drivers are going to drive us in NANOs the purpose is defeated. It is better to train the drivers and be more strict and take disciplenary action immediately for those misbehaving. It should be done on the spot by the Police instead of harrassing the Public to lodge written compalints etc.
Chennai has the worst autoriksha drivers and the Govt is least bothered to correct this problem. The meters are only decorative pieces.
Mumbai has excellent Auto riksha drivers and they also maintain the vehicles very well,
Auto rikash are ideal for short distance traveles in the cities and if NANOs are used opening and closing the doors is a hassle. Also for Senior Citizens and ladies it is easier to get in and get out of Rikshas than Cars
    K V S Mani

  257. Saheer says:

Actually autorickshaws are more eco-friendly,less service cost.good milage, etc than four wheeler NANO.

  258. Same auto drivers will rent those nanos , in auto , 4 people can sit , but in nano only 3 can sit , in an accident scenario , people traveling in auto has better chance of survival than people traveling in nano.
The concept does not seem to be viable.

  259. Rambilas says:

Its fine to replace the autorikshwa with Nano. But i m not sure it will sucessful as compare to auto. Maintanence cost and other expense is very high than auto. So not quit the Auto rikshwa,
Better is Auto rikshwa and you can say best is Nano.

Let us see , what govt. decide.

  260. Avinash Sonawane says:

Any good idea is worth if well planned before execution. First step then is to try in ‘litmus test’ or ‘pilot scale’ before going full scale. This also presents the “feedback’ for corrective measures if any. People’s response and suggestions can be incorporated. Also the ideal ‘test’ place is one where the ‘minds’ of people are open. Any location where stiff resistance for ‘ no logical reasoning’ should not be attempted as it is sure to ‘wind up’ with frustrating experience. I would suggest those areas in Bangalore which are ‘calm’ and ‘progressive’ could be experimented with few Nano’s and a study systematic carried out by NGO or voluntary organizations employing management / research type students on contract research. Goa is progressive state where the experimental trials can be launched because people are ‘acceptable’ and logical. If successful then the existing and new Auto’s in Goa ( polluting the atmosphere ) could be phased out and it seems this experiment can build a ‘ confidence’ and ‘rapport’ in the users and the drivers which will go in making it fairly easy for implementation in places like Bangalore, Kerala. For instance ‘ the motorcycle pilot’ in Goa since 1970 is popular and in the ongoing Monsoon session of Goa Government Assembly it has been proposed to provide for ‘pension’ for these pilot riders. The Nano will enhance the image among domestic and foreign tourist. The designers at TATA should provide an unique engine design with ‘a device’ that allows only one type of ‘fuel’ in the engine namely ‘petrol or LPG or CNG and any other adulteration like ‘kerosene’ is prevented and renders the ‘engine’ inoperable or at least make the expenditure so high that it is not economical to encouarge use of adulterated fuel. It is possible. IT IS A REAL CHALLENGE TO AUTO DESIGNERS/ENGINEERS TO MAKE AN ENGINE THAT USE ONLY ‘SPECIFIED’ FUELS ONLY.

    GREAT IDEA!!!

  262. Khanayat says:

I think nano is best idea and super deal for all Indians. In this case if nano is came on the road then we feel more better then Auto and it’s really safe then auto. So “Chuk de india”

  263. virender sharma says:

In Delhi autorickshaw driver is 80% Behari babu they dont know the exect rule and regulation of trffic in delhi. They are comning in delhi or any where in india specially in metro cities. When they are coming 1st step is to start rikshaw after some time may be within a month they get driving licencs through wrong way and starting playing autorickshaw and they are not going through traiff fare wanting extra money even day time mostly at rly.station and bus terminals you find fighting. Good to replace auto to nano car but why NANO there is also so many models and makes available in India.Better Goverment start sharing taxies in metro cities that is cheap and best way like other countries fix fare no zic-zic. I am not going to technical specifications this is my thought rest god knows

  264. Today when all the leading car manufacturers worldwide are APPRECIATING MR.RATAN TATA GREAT WORK ,some UNEDUCATED,MENTALLY SICK PEOPLE ARE BUSY WITH PASSING USELESS COMMENTS.SHAME SHAME SHAME SHAME SHAME SHAME ON ALL OF THEM .

  265. Anil says:

Commuters are having problem with the Auto driver’s not with the Auto Rickshaw’s. I think replacing the autos for nano is not a good idea. As such in Bangalore traffic is too high and nano will cover more space than the auto and Auto Rickshaw’s are having more fuel efficiency than nano. Government must come out with some concrete steps to control the auto drivers rather than replacing auto with nano. What guarantee you have that nano drivers will behave much better than auto drivers ?

  266. Vittal P says:

The emission is negligible when Nano is compared. But people will feel comfort, the lane discipline, culture and rash driving will be controlled. The chance of meter readings will be followed for certain level.Yes I will support Nano.

  267. ANUR says:

    NICE IDEA

  268. kad says:

Good Idea–But will the public come to know if there is any hidden agenda about the purchase of Nano Cars.. watch out for any scheming intentions behind these laudable scheme

  269. thinking differs person to person, dere r persons preferring to travel best at cheapest cost (lesser chances for taxis to go cheaper dan AUtos) & dere r persons prefer to travel at comfort zone (no matter what d cost is) & dere r persons to travel by both d things depend on their mood & situation (smtimes Auto, smtimes Taxi),so, better ideas is just to experiment first as mentioned by Avinash.
In Mumbai, Taxis been introduced since longer years bt as of today it affected Auto Market a bit bt could not capture d whole auto market, so better to focus on both & run both on parallel level , by introduction of taxi, ppl may also be benefited to have one more alternative of Auto.

  270. Murali says:

AuthoRickShaws are more eco-friendly and less cost than Nano, then why govt want to go for Nano.

  271. Akram says:

Govt have to think about mass trasport facility, like Local trains, Metro. So cheap commutation will be possible for AAM AADMI. As Nano is concern , it will be a big flop show for Govt…..

  272. Raju says:

What a great idea Mr.Ashok sir ji. You have to be in the center government so that you can buy Tata Nano’s for the whole of India.

    Pro’s
    1. Mr. Ashok and Tata will make ton’s on money… 🙂
    2. Amazing job opportunities with BMTC in the next Five years..

    Con’s
    1. Hefty Investments 100 Cores Rupees Not a joke…….
    2. Nano’s to add more traffic within the city.
    3. Safety of Nano’s… Fire Incident’s Remember…… You are playing with people..
    4. Auto’s Drivers Family at Stake..in Bangalore…

    Scope of Improvement for BMTC..
    1. Add more Volvo Buses..
    2. Educate the BMTC bus drivers to drive safe..

    Alternative
    1. BMTC Partner with Metro as a Investor and invest the same money for the Nobel cause… Clean Bangalore,Safe and Eco Friendly Bangalore…
    2. Metro Rail to reaches all the major locations in Bangalore.

Please think wise Mr. Ashok Sir Ji…… 🙂 … Make Smarter Bangalore…..

  275. Shiraz banu says:

These Auto drivers have become a big headach, they pick up the passenger only if the passenger is going in the same direction of the auto driver.
They charge the double amount, if it is in different direction, easily saying it is one way, we hv to return back without any passenger.
To teach a lesson, NANO’s have to take place and the driver’s hold should be with the govt. Any complaint given by the public against the driver shd take it as a serious issue.

  276. Kedar Bhagwat says:

They should wait…. tata is planning for a car which will actually replace autorikshaws on all the fronts.!!!

  277. Jacob Curties says:

Nano is definitely a better move if there are some “Checks” to it…

    “Speed limit” for safe journey.
    “LPG” to be eco-friendly.
“Strict Implementation” of Lane Discipline to control traffic issues.
“Effective & Dynamic Complaint System” to have a check on driver’s behaviour with outcomes like fine or suspending driver’s license.

All classes of community gets “Cab” just like other western countries. Price definitely will be on higher side considering the maintenance and mileage.

Do you think the move by BMTC is constructive? Yes. [If not now, its never.]
Will it blemish the identity of the people’s car? No. [People who buy Nano is not going to worry about Identity and for Nano itself, it would increase its Identity.]

  278. sanjeev says:

In metros, autorickshaws are a major source of irritating noise pollution and also, they are not weatherproof and airconditioned. In all the major citis across the world, autos have almost disappeared from the roads as the cars are more safe and less likely to be overloaded with the customers. Nano , being the cheapest available car, fits the bill nicely to replace the autos. .

  279. NIKHIL GUPTA says:

FIRST MAKE NANO CNG VERSION THEN THINK OF IT

  280. Best Bargains says:

The roads are not worth a car. Auto is better. Btw any of you interested in buying Ipods Mp3 players under Rs 10 ? then ck out bidstall dot com

  281. Bhaskar says:

When you mention pollution most people think in terms of CO / CO2 / Sulphur Di Oxide and other gases. What about Sound Pollution? Stand next to a Auto (Petrol / LPG / Diesel) and hear for yourself the sound racket it creates. Next stand next to
a Nano and see how silent it is.

Point is Sound Pollution is also a important factor to be considered. In this comparison Nano’s beat even the newest of the Autos.

  282. tax filing says:

Will the auto drivers be hired by BMTC to drive those nanos ?

  283. Avinash Sonawane says:

I think anyone citing the ‘fire’ case of Nano, should make it responsibly with due feelings and respect for y other users whose Nano’s are safe and not fired. I covered 4000 kms in 2/3 months. We have 2 Nano’s with us in Goa. The Goan roads are common sight for Nano. And mind there is no fire or heating. One should get facts straight. If yes something is wrong, it needs correction. That is how Japan and others progress. Don’t condemn outright. My reasoning on this issue which i emailed to TATA is put here for benefit of other ‘thinker’. It was possible that a waste cotton rag had remained near the engine ( remember the day the fire incident took place it was on a Sunday afternoon and it might have been that a laborer/ helper /worker was careless or in relaxed mood) forgot it by mistake. This waste cotton or rag fell on to the exhaust pipe and caught fire ( the place of engine is bit awkward behind rear seat requiring nine wing nuts to be removed) and eventually caught fired and fueled by the fresh air supply from sides. I am not defending. TATA must reveal the facts or else people will comment adversely affecting the market or at least come out with improvements in design if needed at the end of the inquiry.

  284. If Possible, Then first Make CNG nano … Its better option then Auto!!

    Joint Mobilization

  285. Sai. says:

Obviously, a bad move by the government. First of all you have more pollution per kilometer by using a nano as opposed to using either a 2 stroke or 4 stroke auto. This itself should deter the government from taking this move. Already the metros are a bunch of dusty canyons full of toxic gases, this step would make it worse.
I am sure once the nanos get older, no one would want to spend on the maintenance and its going to emit even higher toxic gases. Atleast autos are cheaper to maintain.

Secondly, with nanos on the road and not autos, the common man is going to get ripped by the nano-vallah!

I think the government should wait until it come up with alternate eco-friendly options or wait till relatively eco-friendly cars enter the market.

  286. TSVR says:

People should learn not to slam the doors first else the doors be removed before hand like one of the models of SUMO. Actually the step will be a boon to owners to Nano as availability of service/spares and repairs will be good.

  287. LPG GAS says:

    thanks for information…

  288. This same thing has been said sine last 3 years and still we see autos on the roads.

  289. Ashok Sharma says:

BNe it a decision of local state government or any decision of central government, it all boils down to how much money in form of commissions and kickbacks some very greedy politicians and or bureacrats can put in thier pockets !

Agenda is to appease Big Businesses Corporations at the cost of eliminating small poor man who earned bread for family as auto driver !

Look, how in one shot they are generating business for some of thier hand picked banks who they would ask to lead with loan festivals and would Nano mean better etiquettes ?
All deception and illusion game for money the polusion and the noise
which would barely be moved to some other city.

  290. rajesh says:

One more opportunity for Minister Mr R Ashok to earn commission..

He has already raked in several lakhs from Volvo for the city service buses, which run empty with an operating cost of Rs 70 per km…

If some one thinks it is in the interest of public, it is in the interest of pocketing public money..

    cheers….

  291. Samuel Lingam says:

Using car is more expensive when compared to Auto. The maintenance charges will become a extra burden which will ultimately fall on the end users. So better auto than nano.

    Better educate the auto drivers.
    motivate them

  292. Samuel Lingam says:

Using car is more expensive when compared to Auto. The maintenance charges will become a extra burden which will ultimately fall on the end users. So better auto than nano.

    Better educate the auto drivers.
    motivate them
Dont cheat the auto drives by getting Nano

  293. RAGAM says:

First of all auto drivers who are just the poor bread earners are immediately affected financially due to their already investment on Autos. Secondly Autos are more of rough vehicles compared to that of Nanos which are more delicate and therefore the maintenance of Nanos will definitely be higher. Thirdly it is very obvious that these kind of projects are implimented only to make huge money at the political, bureaucrat levels and not for the common good of the public.
Therefore alternatively, the best thing is to educate the auto drivers to behave well and reasonable with the public and subsequently enforce a law with strict rules which penalises and punishes them who do not adhere to those rules.

    • Shantinath Jain says:

For years together, education to autorikshaw drivers is tried at every nook and corner of country. The basic of service industry is to look after the interest of the customer; but alas, it is the day light robery and organised crime of the autorikshaw service industry. The arrogancy , missguiding & extravanent charging is in the blood of this industry owners. Is there any solution on this? Atleast a comfertable and comparitivly safe journy option will be available to the passenger if NANO is introduced.

  294. S.K.Srivastava says:

Nano has not the luggage space whereas the Autorickshaw is having luggage space on the back side or Legside after accommodating 3-4 persons.

Nano will provide an echo/noise free travel whereas auto will never.

Auotorickshaw is more convenient for ordinary people. If you want your status, go for Taxi.

  295. sv says:

We should keep updating, remember the tangas(horse ridden) and cycle rickshaws, they were replaced too. Use the take back scheme from the present day rickshaws and give them nanos while also educating them.
Ofcourse it will be much better to make them solar.

  296. viplove goel says:

Ithink nano will be a better option if it is available in CNG mode
It has a seating capacity for 4 people where as auto is for 3 . It will also protect people from rain.

  297. I’m a 23 year old guy from Hyderabad. When I was a kid, there used to be many rikshaws. The time has changed and auto rikshaws have completely replaced the Rikshaws. It is a gradual change and I guess we should accept it.

There will be few problems when this change takes place gradually but change is needed and it is inevitable 🙂

  298. S.SUDHA says:

I strongly feel NANO is a much better option with a seating capacity for 4 and would be much better in CNG mode and unknowingly we are really paying more than the required charges to the autos since all the meters (99%) are tampered so they will collect roughly 20% more of the actual price. so NANO should be cheaper at actual cost. Good move from the govt if they plan to buy NANO.

  299. dheknesn says:

To those who still want Bajaj (or any other) Auto Rickshaws solely due to “lower cost”, a still better option has not completely died out. There is always the Force Motors’ (formerly Bajaj Tempo) Hanseat 3-wheeler, the Piaggio Ape diesel 3-wheelers. Or, still cheaper, the modified petrol-started kerosene-run Lambretta engine powered 3-wheelers with an outboard gallery around for standees, totally carrying 10 to 12 passengers! These operate in areas around Delhi in Rajasthan, Haryana, UP. The fare couldn’t be lesser. The engines are never killed at the end of a trip because starting them (with petrol) is cumbersome.
